VUGI's policy on eating disorders
The Aerobics section of VUGI has as its goal to promote health by executing functional and varied excercise. Because of this the section has established a policy on eating disorders.
Anorexia nervosa (self- inflicted starvation), Bulimia nervosa (rapid eating) and Ortorexia nervosa (healthy food eating disorder) are very serious illnesses that requires the attention of all. Excercise can both worsen the illnesses and make it more difficult to recover from them.
Our policy states that:
• VUGI's instructors are obliged to give note if one of the section's members show signs of rapid weight loss and an emerging eating disorder.
• VUGI's instructors are obliged to contact a member showing signs of an eating disorder. Furthermore, they shall provide contact information to a facility capable of providing help in acquiring treatment.
• Our instructors have no competence required to be able to assume responsibility concerning the problem, as they have no medical experience or training. However, we can provide support and help in finding contact information to facilities and personell that have such experience and training.
